The israelites really get on my nerves sometimes. They are constantly flip-flopping. It’s not really what you want to read in a story. The characters are expected to get over their problems and learn something. Yet, isn’t this how we are? I flip-flop all the time. I might be just as annoyed with my own story if I looked at in retrospect.

Look what God does though in Judges 10. The israelites turn from God and He tells them after they cry out in sin, “I will deliver you o more. Go and cry out to the gods which you have chosen; let them deliver you in your time of distress.”  God had enough of them just as I would be inclinded to do.

A marvelous thing happens next though. The israelites then confessed, “We have sinned! Do to us what ever seeems best to You; only deliver us this day, we pray.” So they put away the foreign gods from among them and served the Lord.

Now read this in verse 16b, And His soul could no longer endure the misery of Israel.

God delivered them when they repented again after they returned to covenant loyalty. It was as if God couldn’t help Himself, He had to deliver them because of the love He had for them.

God is still like this today. He is just itching to save us and wants to save us but it’s really in our court whether or not we are going to allow it. If we turn to Him, He won’t be able to help himself, He loves us that much.
